Sarajevo Memory Book

visual design, permanent display

The Sarajevo Memory Book Museum, opened in September 2024 in Sarajevo, is a memorial space dedicated to around 1,600 children who lost their lives during the Siege of Sarajevo (1992–1995). The museum preserves children’s diaries, drawings, poems, and personal objects, creating a space that remembers their lives and experiences during the war. The research for the project was supported by the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law and the Sniper Alley platform. The memorial room was later awarded at Zagreb Design Week.

Concept

The visual concept centers on presenting the war through the perspective of children, using their own drawings, writings, and creative expressions as primary visual material. The design aims to create a quiet and reflective environment that supports collective memory, empathy, and remembrance.

Design Approach

As part of the design team, I worked on large-scale wall visuals that structure the narrative of the memorial room. Each wall focuses on a specific theme, telling stories of life during the siege through children’s drawings, poems, and written reflections. We were also included in the spatial design concept creation.

Outcomes

  • wall graphics and exhibition visuals
  • thematic narratives
